The   mourning dove:   ( Zenaida macroura ) is a member of the  dove   family ,  Columbidae . The bird is also known as the  turtle dove ,  American mourning dove  or the  rain dove , and was once known as the  Carolina pigeon  or  Carolina Turtledove .
